Translation is a complex process in any medium, but film subtitles involve their own unique challenges and difficulties. In this online talk, film scholar and translator Darcy Paquet will describe some of the many practical, artistic and cultural issues that arose while preparing the subtitles for Bong Joon Ho's Oscar-winning Parasite, Park Chan-wook's The Handmaiden and other Korean films.

Darcy Paquet is the founder of Koreanfilm.org and the author of New Korean Cinema: Breaking the Waves (2010). Since moving to Seoul in 1997 he has worked as a journalist, lecturer and film critic, and has translated the subtitles for over 100 Korean films.
