CSCC Weekly Forums -- A Revisionist Stakeholder: China and the Post-WWII World Order

- | CSCC Conference Room, Fisher-Bennett 345

Suisheng (Sam) Zhao, Professor of International Studies, University of Denver

Taking advantage of President Trump’s isolationism, President Xi Jinping has vowed to provide “China solution” to the globalization, raising the question if China is to undermine or replace the US-led world order. I will argue that China is not ready to overtake the US power and step into America’s shoes to underwrite the world order. Embracing the Westphalian principles of state sovereignty, the fundamental norms of the Post-WWII order, while adapting to the liberal norms of globalization, China is a revisionist stakeholder, dissatisfied not with the order but its status in the hierarchy.
