On October 25, 1971, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758, which “restored” the People’s Republic of China to the Chinese seat at the UN and “expelled” the Republic of China (Taiwan). Since then, Taiwan has sought to maintain its international space without the benefits of UN membership. Join the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Asia Program for a discussion of the implications of Resolution 2758 half a century on. How has Taiwan pursued international stature without UN membership and participation, and amid Beijing’s ongoing effort to limit Taiwan’s international space?
