Beyond Philadelphia

ATTENTION UNDERGRADS: The Greater Philadelphia Asian Studies Consortium (GPASC) will host their annual undergraduate research conference at Ursinus College this year on Sat., Apr. 13. Deadline for proposals is Apr. 1. $500 in prize money is available for awards for outstanding papers. Keynote speaker: Charles Desnoyers, speaking on Texts and Contexts: Inside Creating an Academic Textbooks. GPASC invites undergraduate students to submit proposals of no more than 250 words on any topic in any discipline relating to any area of Asia: West, East, South, Southeast Asia, and the Asian Diaspora (including Asian America). Please submit your proposals via this link. You will be asked for your name, email and other contact information, and the name and email of your faculty sponsor. Papers written for a course are welcome. Poster presentations are also welcome, as are proposals for group panels, roundtables, or creative presentations (e.g., video, performance). Students will need to identify a faculty mentor or sponsor in the proposal. There is no conference registration fee. We will respond to proposers and faculty sponsors as soon as possible after the deadline. Oral presentations should be timed for 12-15 minutes. Contact Matthew Mizenko at with any questions.

The International and Foreign Language Education team at the U.S. Department of Education is excited to announce the launch of the FY 2024 Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad competition.  The Group Projects Abroad (GPA) program provides grants to support overseas projects in training, research, and curriculum development in modern foreign languages and area studies for teachers, students, and faculty engaged in a common endeavor. Projects may include short-term seminars, curriculum development, group research or study, or advanced intensive language programs. See here for more information.
