Event
Largely formed through gifts and purchases starting from the World’s Fair held in Philadelphia in 1876, the PMA’s Chinese collection reflects the vision and taste of the directors, curators and donors at the time it was acquired. Some notable names associated with the collection include Langdon Warner and Osvald Siren. Tastes change, however, and what was considered to be interesting and important then may be perceived differently now. This talk will broadly look of the collection while discussing some well-known pieces as well as lesser known works that have come to light more recently.
