Niara is a fourth-year undergraduate in the College of Arts and Sciences with a double major in East Asian Languages & Civilizations and Health & Societies, and a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. She is also pursuing a Masters in the East Asian Languages & Civilizations department as part of their submatriculation program. Her main research focus is on the role, perception, and evolution of women and sexuality within Chinese medical history. Niara is from Northeast Philadelphia, born and raised. She loves exploring different parts of the city and frequenting the many bookstores in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. A deep love and curiosity for understanding the conversation between people, culture, and societal systems drive her research and academic interests.
